A study of the Seismological Society of America suggests that the earthquake of 2010 could mark the beginning of a new series of powerful earthquakes in the area.

According to the authors of the study published in the Bulletin of the Society, historical records show frequent seismic activity in that area of ​​the Caribbean over the past 500 years, especially in the island of Spanish (Hispaniola) shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
